Arjan W. Kleij received his MSc (honors, 1996) and PhD (cum laude, 2000) in chemical sciences from the University of Utrecht under the supervision of Prof. Gerard van Koten. Afterwards, he was a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Javier de Mendoza (UAM, Madrid, Spain, 2002), and continued postdoctoral work with Prof. Joost Reek and the University of Amsterdam (2003-2005, The Netherlands). Apart from his PD experience, he worked for three years in industry at Avantium and Hexion Specialty Chemicals. In October 2006 he started his independent career at ICIQ as a Group Leader and ICREA junior fellow, and was promoted to ICREA professor in 2011. Arjan has (co)authored >160 international journal publications and 2 patent applications with total citations beyond 6200 (h-index ranks around 45). He is an advisory board member for Current Organic Chemistry (since 2014), ChemSusChem (since 2016), editorial board member for the Journal of CO2 Utilization (since 2017), and Molecules (since 2017), and was guest-editor for Catalysis Science & Technology in 2014 and ChemSusChem in 2017 arranging. In 2016 he chaired the first Carbon Dioxide Conversion Catalysis (CDCC-1) conference in Portugal. His main research interests are in the area of small molecule conversion and synthesis, the discovery of new reactivity towards stereo/enantioselective synthesis and the use of renewable compounds for polymer applications.
